Whats a really good LCD HDTV 1080p around 32 inches for about 700ish dollars?

I want to stick a tv in my room, the gap on the wall between my open door and my closet is about 40 inches. so im thinking a tv around 32 inches should be a good size. I’m 16 and i plan to get a job soon and save up about 700 to buy it. every tv i see in a best buy magazine looks like it has ripoff written all over it. The tv HAS to by 1080p since the viewing distance will be about 5 feet if im sitting at my desk. My plan is to plug it into my computer via a HDMI cable. Nothing else. Can you recommend any good models that are decent yet cheap? thanks.

32″ at 5 feet away doesn’t need 1080p. 32″ at 4 feet away doesn’t need 1080p. Most consumer and guru guides a like will tell you that you’re just not really going to see the advantages of 1080p until you break 40″, and more so 50″. It won’t hurt, and yes it might help a bit, but not to the extent you’re going to have to invest for the feature (poor bang for the buck). At least for regular TV viewing, but your plans are a bit different…

Your computer use changes things a bit. For a computer, okay yes you should invest in 1080p so you can use a 1920×1080 screen resolution. But then TV or not, we’re talking a “computer monitor” here, so the rules are different.

1080p in $700 should be doable, but you might need a sale to help you out. If you can get a job soon enough, you might be able to squeeze out enough savings for a Black Friday pickup (likely the next big sale).

Right now at Best Buy, for what you’re looking for, I would recommend,

LG 32LH30-UA – reg $750, right now its on for $580 though
LG 32LH40-UA – reg $900, right now its on for $710
- adds 120Hz to the mix, if you really want all high end features
Sasmung LN32B550K1F – reg $850, right now its on for $710
Samsung LN32B640 reg $1,000, right now its on for $800
- adds 120Hz to the mix, if you really want all high end features
Sony KDL-32S5100 – reg $750, right now its on for $650

Best Buy doesn’t have good regular prices, but they do have some really strong sales (usually every 6 weeks or so). There are a respectable choice, as long as you’re a bit patient to time things out right. They have a good selection.

Also BB will price match. So if you see a sale somewhere else, just take that into BB and get them to match. Or if trust the other place, then buy it there. Those are all widely distributed models I listed above, most TV resellers would sell them.
