Why haven’t the new network TV shows gone to HD?
Why?
I have owned a HD tv for almost 2 years and still, most newer TV shows like Survivor, Deal or No Deal, Big Brother, Nanny, Hell’s Kitchen, Biggest Loser (you need wide HD for that!), Judge Judy, etc. are not HDTV. Ok, a few are HD like CSI, and some sports. But not enough networks!!
Amazingly, public TV (PBS) has more HD than the wealthy networks.
Sure, they all do broadcast on the HD band (Upper Channels on my service provider), but the shows are not actualy HD, they have black bars on the sides. So I get a square picture.
Some people say “stretch” the view with the HD menu options. When I do that, it is not HD anymore, I may as well go down to the regular channels and watch it on the non-HD channel.
HD is very disappointing. I can buy a HD camcorder for less than 2K, I an sure that NBC, CBS and ABC can afford to upgrade thier systems. A commercial every 5minuts should have payed for that a long time ago for them.
Is anyone here annoyed with the lack of HDTV
While it may cost you only $2000 for an HD camcorder, a professional grade HD camera costs over $20,000, and if you use HD-SDI, versus SD-SDI (which they probably use now), you have to upgrade all of your switching routers, your capture equipment, your editing suite, better lighting (since HD will show those things better). It’s not just a matter of “buying a new camera”.
